| Now that you've studied abroad, you are probably aware that there is an entire field out there called international education. Working to send students abroad or welcome international students here is a very rewarding career, and there are many ways to apply your talents and enthusiasm to the field. An outstanding resource for finding jobs in the field is the NAFSA website. NAFSA is the Association of International Educators, which is the main trade organization for the field of international education as a whole. Within NAFSA, there is a branch called Education Abroad which concentrates on sending students abroad to other countries. The NAFSA website has a Job Registry section where universities post job opportunities in their international offices. Often attending regional NAFSA conferences can help you network with professionals in the industry. These are usually held in November of each year. If you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree in international education, you can do a search for this type of programs at gradschools.com. However, a Master’s is not always necessary for jobs in the Education Abroad field. One of the best ways to gain experience even as a current student is to participate in the AustraLearn enCompass Program and/or work as a peer advisor or student worker in the Study Abroad Office at your home university. Both opportunities will allow you to help promote study abroad to future students and stay connected to your own abroad experience. AustraLearn has often hired its own alumni onto our staff.
