Airfare, utilities, food and personal spending are not included in program fees. Estimated cost for eating 14 meals per week at the café or restaurant and cooking own breakfast is $70-80 USD per week. Estimated cost for students who choose to cook their own meals is $40 - 50 USD per week. Additional Costs Air Tickets: AustraLearn offers discounted student tickets to all participants and will arrange group flights for students to travel together. Costs range from $1200-$1800 round-trip from Los Angeles. Flexible return options are available.  Housing Deposits: Housing deposits are not included in package fees and are approximately $600 USD. Deposits are billed prior to departure and will be refunded at the end of the program. Health Insurance: Health Coverage The New Zealand governments require all overseas students to purchase medical coverage. This is mandatory and must be purchased from a New Zealand provider. Cost for this insurance is included in the listed fees. AustraLearn GAP program participants will receive an ISIC (International Student Identity Card) at no charge. The card offers insurance benefits as well as special discounts for students for entertainment, travel and shopping. Details will be provided after students are accepted into the program. Immigration visa: Option 1 Internship (Working Holiday Visa): No cost for U.S. citizens. $150 CAD for Canadian citizens. Options 2 and 3 Study (Student Visa): No cost for U.S. citizens, estimated $170 CAD for Canadian citizens. For all other nationalities, AustraLearn will notify students of the cost to obtain the required visa. Other expenses: Estimated book expense for Options 2 and 3 is $150 USD per 12 week term. Option 1 Internship participants may be required to wear uniforms depending on internship position. Traditional “black and whites” can be purchased in New Zealand for an estimated cost of $250 USD or student may bring their own black pants and white shirts. Estimated utilities cost: $200 USD per 18 week program. Personal spending/entertainment expenses will vary per student. Scholarships AustraLearn is a leading provider of study abroad programs to Australia and New Zealand. As a facilitator of international education, AustraLearn strives to offer programs that are both academically and culturally enriching for students. Each year AustraLearn awards more than $275,000 in scholarships and grants to ensure students have an affordable international experience. This year, AustraLearn and QRC are pleased to award two scholarships for students undertaking a GAP program in 2008. Each scholarship is in the amount of $1,000 USD. Students must be accepted into the GAP program in order to apply. Applications are not available to inquiries and students cannot apply for awards prior to being accepted to the program. |
