| Click here to view the estimated programs fees for AustraLearn semester and year abroad programs. AustraLearn offers a wide range of services for all year and semester abroad programs. Some universities offer additional excursions or programs for AustraLearn students. Be sure to read through the “Special Programs” section on each university profile page for more information. PERSONALIZED PRE-DEPARTURE ADVISING Your AustraLearn coordinator will assist you with all the steps required to select your classes, ensure transfer credit at your home university, book airline tickets, arrange housing, transfer financial aid, apply to volunteer abroad, and much more. AustraLearn’s Enrollment Coordinators have all lived, studied, or worked abroad and thus know exactly what you are going through as you prepare to leave. They are available Monday - Friday, 8-5 (MST) to answer any and all questions you, your parents, or advisors have. A transcript from the university you attend abroad will be provided about 6-8 weeks after your program ends for transfer credit to your home university. IMMIGRATION VISA ADVISING AustraLearn provides step-by-step instructions and personalized advising from a staff member in the office who is dedicated to ensuring that each participant has a student visa before departing the country. An immigration visa to study in Australia costs $430 AUD (approx. $415USD, $416CAD). This fee is not included in the AustraLearn program fees because it is paid directly to the government of Australia. There is no fee for United States citizens studying in New Zealand, however, a student visa for Canadian citizens costs approximately $170CAD. For Fiji, the student visa fee is approximately $350USD ($340CAD). All student visa fees are set by the immigration department of the visiting country, not by AustraLearn. TUITION AND FEES As a study abroad student, you will be required to enroll as a full time student which is 3-4 subjects at most universities in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. Your semester is equivalent to 12-16 U.S. credits. Additional charges may apply for science, media, fine arts, or journalism subjects at some universities. We have included mandatory fees at the host university such as the Student Union Fee (where applicable). Several universities have included the Sports and Rec. membership; activities are usually extra. Fees are subject to change due to university fee increases prior to commencement of program. Fees are in U.S. dollars and program fee increases or refunds will not be issued due to exchange rate fluctuation. HEALTH INSURANCE The Australian/New Zealand/Fijian governments require all overseas students to purchase a particular health plan. This is mandatory and is included in the listed fees. AustraLearn also provides all students with an ISIC (International Student Identity Card) included in the program fees. The ISIC card provides additional travel-related insurance. PROGRAM INTRODUCTION Program fees include the famous in-country AustraLearn Program Introduction. Click here for more information on the Program Introductions in each country. (Not currently available for students attending the International College of Management, Sydney). VOLUNTEER WEEKEND All semester and year abroad students can apply to participate in a conservation-based volunteer weekend. Click here for more information. ACCOMMODATION AustraLearn provides guaranteed prearranged accommodation at all of our university locations. There are a range of accommodation options giving you the opportunity to choose the situation that best suits you. Residential Colleges (or Halls of Residences) are a good place to meet local students and learn about local campus life, while prearranged accommodation in an apartment may allow a more independent view of the local way of life. Accommodation is either co-ed or single sex. Students may be charged for telephone usage, special events, internet connection and usage, extra nights accommodation, and other miscellaneous items on arrival. Student rooms are allocated based upon the date of initial and second payment as well as submission of your housing form. Prearranged accommodation with meals includes 10-21 meals per week and is typically either a dormitory style or apartment style unit with a shared dining facility. You will usually have your own room and share living space with other students. Bathrooms may be private or shared, depending on the option. Prearranged accommodation without meals is typically apartment style living on or near the campus. Again, you will have your own room (twin share may be available) and share the bathroom, kitchen, and living space with other students. Occasionally, accommodation without meals is available in a dorm-like building with large shared kitchens. The unit will be furnished for cooking and there will be markets within walking distance or a bus ride from your accommodation location for all your necessary supplies. Accommodation arranged upon arrival (by student) is available in most locations if you do not wish to live in prearranged accommodation. You may want to ask AustraLearn if arranging your own accommodation is a feasible option, as apartments are harder to come by in some locations. Once you arrive at the university, the University’s Accommodation Office will provide you with assistance for finding a suitable shared housing situation in the area. You will most likely meet potential roommates at your AustraLearn Program Introduction who will also be looking for apartments once everyone has arrived on campus. Apartments are usually shared with two or more people and are rented and paid for directly through the landlord or management company and thus are not included in AustraLearn program fees. You will be provided with airport transfer to prearranged temporary accommodation where you will stay while you find your permanent choice. Homestay options are available. If you are interested in this option, please contact us for more information. Housing deposits are not included in program fees and vary from $200 - $1000 USD. Deposits are billed prior to departure. 24-HOUR SUPPORT IN AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND/FIJI In-country support is available through the AustraLearn South Pacific Educational Support Centre. Staff members are currently located in Australia and New Zealand and are easily reached through a 24-hour toll free phone number. PARENTAL SUPPORT AustraLearn recognizes that parents and guardians have their own concerns and questions about your semester or year abroad. We welcome calls from parents and guardians and are happy to answer any and all questions. We also provide specific resources for parents and family upon the student's acceptance to the program. Click here for more information and resources for parents and family. ALUMNI PROGRAM Once you have returned from your program abroad, you will be asked to fill out our online evaluation of your program, experiences, and overall opinion of the program, university, and more. Alumni are also asked to participate in future AustraLearn events or other activities as a part of our enCompass Program. |
