Macquarie University - Degree Programs

Overview

Macquarie University was established in 1964, with an aim to forge a bold new direction for Australian higher education: to explore new possibilities in teaching methods, research, and technology to prepare students for success in a rapidly changing world. Now, over 40 years later, Macquarie is a thriving community of over 30,000 students – including 8,000 international students – and widely recognized as “Australia’s Innovative University”.

It is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities by The Times’ Higher Education Supplement and is a member of Innovative Research Universities Australia, an alliance of institutions committed to innovative approaches to teaching and research, internationalization, commercial enterprises, and engagement with industry and communities.

Macquarie is located on 135 hectares of parkland in Sydney's northwest suburb of North Ryde, a 30-minute drive from Sydney’s harbor and central business district. The modern, well-equipped campus is home to an acclaimed sculpture park, several museums, two hotels, and a golf driving range, and is adjacent to a large shopping center and transport hub. Quality student accommodation is available both on and off campus.

Academic Highlights

Macquarie is distinguished by the range and quality of its course offerings. The university’s Master of Applied Finance program, for example, is the world’s largest, and the Master of Business Administration program has been ranked as one of the finest in the Asia-Pacific region.

Macquarie’s courses are delivered by academic staff considered to be among the best in Australia, 65 percent of who hold doctoral qualifications. The University was awarded five stars in the Staff Qualifications category in The Good Universities Guide 2007.

More of Macquarie University's Achievements include:

• Since 1998, Macquarie has won 11 Competitive Centres of Excellence awards in new science-based high technology areas.

• Macquarie is the home of Australia ’s first NASA affiliated Centre for Astrobiology and one of four worldwide.

• Macquarie biologist, Professor Richard Frankham, has been named one of the world’s best scientists of the 21st century.

• The Macquarie Graduate School of Management’s (MGSM) MBA Program has been ranked number one in Australia and Asia and 42nd in the world. MGSM was also rated first in the world in the areas of student quality and diversity of recruiters and second in the areas of personal development and educational experience by Economist Intelligence Unit's publication on global full-time MBA rankings.
